Jourdan Myers – Ruin Me With Love
There are some songs here I like quite a bit. There are some others I really don’t like at all. I guess that makes this is a mixed album. I’d say that, overall I like this. I just would tend to skip some of the songs.
“Lifetime or Before” starts the disc. The vocals are good, but a little understated. It has some great rocking music in the later parts, but starts off a little on the lightweight side. I like the Americana elements on “Long Days”. There are also hints of some 90s alternative rock. It is a slow moving piece, but it’s very good. Another slow on, some of the sounds on “Push Me On the Playground” seem to clash a bit, as far as I’m concerned. This isn’t all that great, but it has its good points.
Far too delicate and artsy for my tastes, I don’t like “Firelight” at all. “The Fight” doesn’t do much for me. It’s a little too strange. Yet, it’s also kind of predictable in terms of the electronic sound here. It just doesn’t grab me. Now, “Wanderlust is more like it. A rocker, it feels a lot like something that would have come out in the 1990s. That’s paired with a more modern sound to create something special.
“Voice of Silver” is just too precious and too generic for me. Somehow “Tears” makes me think of things like The Cure a bit. It’s slow moving, but that changes as it gradually intensifies and gets more tempo brought into it. It is a better song for sure. “End of Me” is more of a bluesy rocker. It has some sounds that are related to 80s and 90s sounds. It is one of my favorites here.
“Dusty Rose” is bouncy. It’s also catchy. It just doesn’t work well for me. Neither does “Be Here.” A slow moving number, it’s just sort of there. More in line with 1980s music, I like “Slow Motion” quite a bit. It’s one of my favorites here.
