Kevin Durr – Songbird

Kevin Durr just dropped his latest 11 song CD called “Songbird.” I get the impression Durr is no new comer to songwriting or performing. He’s a seasoned performer and composer whose ballads take the listener on a musical journey through reflective, touching, poetic expressions into a world of captivatingly beautiful and syncopated vocal harmonies. The remaining material offers a more electrically charged display of raw emotion and high energy that, combined with the acoustic ballads, provide the listener a wide spectrum of listening enjoyment.

“Songbird” is a carefully crafted collection of songs showcasing Folk, Rock and Americana Pop artisanship at its best. The end result creates a foundation for memorable and uplifting group of songs. There’s also a clear-defined message about love and life itself that will sure to have a positive impact on many listeners. You can definitely hear the Folk/Americana influence in his music. Especially on the title track and “In my Dreams.” Personally I see Durr as a hybrid between James Morrison and Marc Broussard. What’s more vocals from Durr possess an inviting timber that will be sure to gravitate many traditional folk-type listeners as well. The first few tracks title track, “In My Dreams”, “Forever and a Day” set the preliminary mood extremely well. “Home”, “Black Magic”, and “courage” wave you in for a safe landing. My favorite song is a toss-up between “Songbird” and “Home” There are 3 things I really like about “Songbird” This may be the most passionate CD’s I’ve heard  in quite a while. I literally believed and felt every word this man sang. Kevin Durr has the courage to write and play music the way he writes and plays. A far cry from the “sell out” corporate approach. Whereas 90% of the bands could care less about this approach as they just want to make labels happy. This is one of the most important aspects for me when evaluating talent. Keeping this in mind I’d rather listen to the music of Kevin Durr than any tacky cut and paste pop artist out there right now. Overall, this latest release from Kevin Durr entitled “Songbird” pulls out all the stops and will bring nothing but positives to the musical status quos.

“Songbird” by Kevin Durr is filled with much in the way of integrity, passion, amazing vocal work, solid chops and top tiered production value. All this and more makes Kevin Durr a “diamond in the rough” and a force to be reckoned with in the legions of Folk and traditional Singer/Songwriter styles music.
