If someone came up to you and said they were an Acid Jazz band, you may look at them bewildered. It’s not a term tossed around every day but that’s the reality for Lou Richard. “Hells Kitchen” sounds like old Ozzy, so that’d be Black Sabbath for the youngsters out there. It has that monologue delivery to the vocals that’s more a speech than a singing part. Then the vocals are distant as “Dance With My Guitar” kicks in. It’s like they’re being funneled through and letting the instruments really take center stage. Things almost get New Age like with “My Love For U Can’t Last.” It’s like some sort of song you’d put on for meditation. That idea continues on with “Who Is It Gonna Be.” With the beginning of this journey leaning towards the Prince of Darkness, it’s interesting that this is where we ended up. That’s the great thing about artistry in music – you never know which way it’s going to lead you. As someone who has never heard of Acid Jazz, this was definitely an experience I suggest for musical risk takers. If that’s you, check out the stylings of Lou Richard today.
