Peter Luke – My New Life’s Just Begun
Folk rock isn’t for everyone but in the case of Peter Luke, an up-and-comer that some may not even know of, has gone on to release a new song and single called “My New Life’s Just Begun”. The track itself is as the genres just described is, folk rock, but he uses electric with acoustic both doing this on and off thing. For this song it sounds like the two of them have been used at once. The song itself being catchy yet interesting to say the least. Lyrical context being very relatable as to anyone, who may not really know what to do with their own lives, or perhaps have their lives set up the right way. In the case for Peter Luke, his life has only begun, as the title says and lyrics follow.
His style of folk rock blends as said before, electric with acoustic, like take for instance Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Phil Ochs, those artists is what Peter Luke somewhat creates, except his own style, for this time and place, this generation of music. Yes his style sounds a lot like these other acts, but just slightly. You will enjoy his style hands down but if you’re expecting it to sound over the top, don’t go so far into it. Granted this guy does sound good for what he is doing but again it could be much improved. Having only one song to go off of, to determined someone in one take, is rather difficult. He doesn’t have much of any other releases to go off of really.
Well no he did release one album called “The Adventurous World Of Peter Luke” that was released in 2014, just two years ago, after listening to that release’s bits and pieces, that set of work sounds a lot more impressive than this single alone. It just has more pride and passion with it. This single, is just there, showcasing what it is, as a single and there is nothing else to really be said about it, just that it’s there and that’s it pretty much. “My New Life’s Just Begun”, doesn’t provide as much raw material that his debut album consisted of, that release just filled the music up, had more catchiness, more lyrical context that could stand out more so, it just made it a better release, than this stand alone single is doing.
By the sounds of it, this new song steps away from what can be found upon that debut release. It takes a step forward, sounding a whole lot different. The songs on the album is more acoustic driven, whereas this song, is more electric based, having it be more out there, sounding as its own thing. So it can be pretty decent when you really think about it, and listen to it a few times. It’s hard to tell really, the new song isn’t so bad but then again it is bad. It sounds fine and decent but again there just isn’t enough there for it, as the previous material had. This song is alright for what it is but again it could be improved just a tad. Having more flare and upbeat tones to it, having it pop out more, and be more enjoyable, as the previous material had within it.
Peter Luke is an act that will surely make his rounds and be heard more so as he continues to branch outward, ever so further, going more and more into the music scene, with his crafty styling’s that is folk acoustic rock. He surely has it in himself to do this, and will gladly pull it off easily no problem in no time with ease.
