Here’s a small bio to get you going:
Years ago, two friends started an experimental noise band which would eventually be called TITHONUS: Ben Overlaet on guitar and Jan Van Woensel on drums. They recorded and self-released two songs in a limited edition, “Movements” and “I Want to Disappear into the Black Back of the Night Watch”. While working on their titleless, non-stop, 70 minutes long noise composition, Jan would occasionally also appear on guitar to create extra soundscapes, which brought more dissonance and eeriness to the music. They played several noteworthy gigs in Belgium (Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, Watou), Germany (Cologne, Berlin) and Norway (Oslo). Their merciless noise composition was recorded live on Tithonus’s first public appearance, a show in an old industrial building, and was called “The Secret Session”.
Later Ben’s brother Dave Overlaet joined the band on bass guitar and their music became more structured, although the adventure of noise would never be far away. After a while, Jan decided to leave the band and Tim Jamée replaced him as a drummer. In that period Tithonus’s typical grunge sound was born. With their grunge set, inspired by bands like Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, etc…, they played several gigs in Belgium (Antwerp, Ghent and Mechelen) and the Netherlands (Roosendaal). Tithonus also recorded their promo-album “Safe”. They also played at the main stage of Bad Moøn Festival: an underground festival in an abandoned church in Antwerp. After three years of having been with the band, Tim left and Jan rejoined, this time as a full-time drummer. They’ve since played in Belgium and the Netherlands.
They’ve just signed a deal with Rosner Management Services (Vancouver BC, Canada).
Tithonus is currently working on new material, while continuing to play live shows, and hopefully in the not so far future, they will hit the studio to record a full length album.
